The story of Jara

Little Jarán from Nigeria, now aged 9, suddenly started showing strange symptoms when he was 4. His family tried everything for years to get rid of the patches on his skin, but they wouldn’t go away. They even thought it might be some sort of mental illness…
Her skin was getting worse and worse. Her hope was beginning to fade too. Not even her friends played with her any more.
Everything changed when the Leprosy Mission – Nigeria held a screening day in the little girl’s village. Jara was diagnosed with leprosy and immediately started on medication. Her skin began to heal! Because of her father’s work, it was very difficult for him to take her to her appointments, but the little girl wouldn’t take a single step without him.
Jara is still shy and reserved. But she’s getting on well with her old friends again, and a sense of joy is returning to her life.
Jara now dares to think that she might be able to go to school and learn. Perhaps she might even become a teacher? And might she get married, too?
These dreams are essential for a little girl.
